About us

A family making room for the whole child.

The Unboxed Child is Hazzauna Underwood’s family education, lifestyle, and travel journal. It follows a working mother of four as she helps two neurodivergent learners build an education around how they actually learn—not around what looks tidy on paper.

The short version: we are curious, busy, sometimes overwhelmed, and usually looking for the next interesting thing to try.

The person behind the notes

Hi, I’m Hazzauna.

I’m a working mother of four and a healthcare professional. I’m also the person trying to make learning work across a job, a split-household family rhythm, different learning profiles, and the ordinary chaos of having three ADHD brains in the house.

Two of my younger children are neurodivergent learners. Their differences are not a problem to solve for the internet. They are people with their own strengths, needs, humor, preferences, and privacy. This site shares our approach without turning their hardest moments into content.

“Raise the child. Question the box.”

What we believe

Mastery matters more than a tidy label.

A child can be brilliant and still need more time. They can soar in one subject and need foundational work in another. We care about understanding, confidence, life skills, and the ability to ask for what they need—not just whether a calendar says they are on schedule.

What this is not

Not a manifesto. Not a conversion funnel.

We are not anti-school, and we are not trying to persuade every family to homeschool. We are not a perfect homeschool mother, an expert with a five-year map, or a substitute for professional medical advice. This is one family’s honest record of trying a different shape because the familiar one was not working well for us.

Take what helps. Leave what doesn’t. Nobody needs another person yelling certainty from the internet.
